Q3 – Week 7 – 19-20
Week of 3/16 – 3/20
*Okay we are out for 2 weeks but we need to finish this course and get ready for the AP test. I intend to do that but I will need your help on your end. For those that are not very good at putting in the time out of school you need to step it up! I have a plan and we will execute it together.
We are so close to the finish line and I do not want to lose our momentum so we will continue! You have worked very hard starting from this summer to be in a position to finish this course early and review and practice! I do not want to lose that opportunity for you if we are closed for just 2 weeks. I do not know what the future holds but I must assume that school will be back in session and you will have an AP BIOLOGY AP test in MAY.
I thank you for your hard work and your trust in me. Please continue your efforts as I will! The school is nothing without its students!
I plan on doing live teaching later this week and plan on doing so during out allotted class time, 12:00 – 1:30. Please make the necessary accommodations to keep that time free for class time. We are out of school but school is open digitally! This is the time we will use for live timed assessments.
Please be patient and refresh this page often as I working to get everything ready for each day. Let’s go!
3/16 – Monday –
1: Water Potential Tests will graded and placed in Power School today sometime
*I will not post the key until all students have taken the test.
*Edgar, Kristina, and Theresa- I will give you this test digitally but I need to give it you at the same time in a timed condition. Of course everyone needs to healthy first so please get back to me with an email when you are feeling up to it.
2: Cell Membrane into signaling – I am posting a class lecture to review Cell – Cell Communication that connects your epinephrine mini- report and your work from last week, including the written form.
Today’s lecture –
In this lecture:
Completed the discussion of Cell to Cell signaling: To slide 63
Epinephrine pathway —-> Reception by extracellular glycoproteins that are specific for the Epinephrine (chemical messenger). Although all receptors for Epinephrine are identical and only for Epinephrine the cell response is different for each different cell that has these same receptors.
Some chemical messengers unlike Epinephrine (large and polar) can pass directly through the cell membrane BUT they still have a receptor molecule in the cytoplasm.
Cell Communication:
3/16 – Monday Homework:
1. Please listen to today’s lecture first.
2. Then complete the following form on another long distance chemical signaling pathway.
Hormonal Pathway of the Reproductive Cycle.
Please use the following 2 videos to complete the form:
Video 1: Follicular Phase:
Video 2: Luteal Phase:
Video 3: How homeostasis is maintained through positive and negative feedback loops
Tonights form:
End of Monday!
3/17 – Tuesday –
1: Review your Reproductive Cycle form – It was graded and it has been sent back to you. You have one more submission due by tomorrow!
2: Complete Cell Communication Presentation lecture – It will be posted later
You might want to count how many times I say Cell Apoptosis in this lecture!
a) Long distance vs short distance cell to cell signaling..
b) Cell Apoptosis –
1. Embryological development
2. Life cycle of the lets say Painted Ladies
3. Painted Lady data gathering /observations
Please write down the Total Cup’s Mass for Day 4 of the Painted Lady Experiment!
Hey they are growing up so fast!!! So much growth factors!!! These guys are so Cyclin!
*Once you look at your Total Cup’s Mass from today and compare it to Friday you should see something that may look odd to you. What could that be?

1. Complete. the form on chapter 12 and 13 that review the 2 day’s of lectures.
End of Tuesday..
3/18 – Wednesday –
We will meet digitally today. Please plan accordingly. I am planning on 1:00.
More details will follow in your email.
1. Review last night form. It will be graded and returned to you shortly.
2. Note -taking on transpiration : we will do this live
3: Transpiration Lab – setup and intro: we will do this live
Plant BeHaviors:
2: Transpiration – Note taking – Plasmodesmata – symplastic vs apoplastic
a) Root positive pressure
b) Negative pressure of the evaporation of the water
Transpiration in concert with guard cell regulates water flow to provide 2 important things for plants
a) electrons for Photosystem II
b) Turgid Cell – plants have no skeletal system, need water for constant support!
Termination of signals – Phosphodiesterase (stops the Epinephrine secondary messenger cAMP)
Apoptosis – programmed cell death.
3/18 – Wednesday’s Homework:
End of Wednesday..
3/19 – Thursday
1: Embryonic development – It is an older video and the presenter is a bit froggy but it is a great presentation on embryonic development. Make sure you dig in!
A) Stem Cell lecture – Holiday lectures
Today we will not meet. I am asking that you will play the following video with the link below and take notes* on the video
especially on the embryonic development. I will link a google doc for you to do so. Please make notes* to 37:40 min mark.
Make sure you take notes on:
*Remember we left off with a Blastocyst embedding itself on the endometrium wall in the Reproductive cycle form!
–Stem cell and cell differentiation by chemical messengers for normal development.
– Germ layers
– cytoplasm factors
– CONNECTIONs!! = (larva lab – painted lady) (Organ Transplants)
LINK TO VIDEO:
I will have linked you a google doc for you to complete your notes.
*If these notes are outstanding I will place a 100 in one of the your last forms!
Think NORTS – maybe screen shots!!
3/19 – Thursday Homework –
Please do today’s assignment first.
1. Make a third submission to Tuesday nights form.
2. Please complete the form below:
3/20 – Friday – we will meet today at about 1:30 to review the last forms.
Todays meeting recorded link:
1. Please continue with note-taking on the video while you wait to 51:48 only!
LINK TO VIDEO:
3. Painted Lady data gathering /observations
Please write down the Total Cup’s Mass for Day 8 of the Painted Lady Experiment!
Hey they are growing up so fast!!! So much growth factors!!! These guys are so Cyclin!
*Once you look at your Total Cup’s Mass from today and compare it to Mnda you should see something that may look odd to you. What could that be?
